Fabergé is delighted to present a one-of-a-kind hand-carved wooden egg commissioned by Sarah Fabergé, great granddaughter of our founder Peter Carl Fabergé, and presented as the first ever Restaurant Association Award for Services to Hospitality to
Albert Roux OBE, Michel Roux and Emily Roux at the Restaurant Association Gala Dinner in London’s Savoy Hotel.
The first Fabergé eggs embodied the tradition, skill and expertise of legendary artist jeweller Peter Carl Fabergé. This egg is set with gemstones in an elegant tribute to that tradition and to honour the artistry and the excellence on display at Le Gavroche, Chez Roux, Roux at the Landau and newcomer The Waterside Inn.
The award was a personal project for Sarah Fabergé, founding member of the Fabergé Heritage Council. “I had a concept in mind and contacted my good friend and fellow member of the Worshipful Company of Turners, Joey Richardson, artist and sculptor to ask her to create a unique wooden egg for the occasion,” Sarah explains. “It is hard to refer to Fabergé without eggs and the same goes for chefs! The brief was to create an award which was 12 inches in height and to represent the Roux family using of three special gemstones supplied by Fabergé. I am delighted by the results and it was an honour to be so integral to this special evening.”
A Gallic rooster was included in the piercing and airbrushing work - the unofficial symbol of France, inspired by the image of Albert Roux holding a rooster on the family’s website. “This was the perfect link to Fabergé as hens and cockerels also feature in a number of their pieces,” says Joey. “I have incorporated shoes to represent Sarah Fabergé. I was with her once when a friend asked how she had travelled somewhere, and she replied; ‘I just clicked my shoes and found myself here!’”
Michel Roux Jr. expressed his pride and delight. “We were so honoured at The Restaurant Association’s recognition of our family’s contribution to the UK restaurant industry. We’re now into our third generation of restaurateurs with Emily and Diego’s opening last year, and it was wonderful to receive such an accolade in front of all our respected peers,” he said.
The Restaurant Association Award for Services to Hospitality was presented at the second annual Restaurant Association Gala Dinner, Celebrating Excellence in Food & Wine Service hosted by UK Hospitality and The Nth Degree Club on Monday 25th February 2019 at The Savoy Hotel.
