Peter Carl was the mastermind behind the fifty Imperial Easter Eggs created between 1885 and 1916. The very first object, the Hen Egg, was commissioned in 1885 by Tsar Alexander III. His son Nicholas continued the beloved tradition and Fabergé became the most influential Russian jeweller.

Peter Carl’s travels and pursuit of renewal contributed to his success. Techniques such as guilloché enamelling and the introduction of neoclassical colour palettes and decorative elements positioned the Maison as one of boundless creativity and unrivalled savoir-faire.

St. Petersburg

Fabergé’s new headquarters were inaugurated in 1900. Peter Carl commissioned architect Carl Schmidt, his cousin, to design a four-storey building. This project was part of Peter Carl’s strategy to house workshops, design studios, and retail space under one roof. His apartment was located in the same building, allowing him to oversee every aspect of the growing business.

Craftsmanship

Trained by respected goldsmiths, Peter Carl’s expertise was reflected in each creation. His passion and dedication to exceptional savoir-faire shifted the industry mentality that the value of a piece solely relies on the cost of materials. For Peter Carl, design and craftsmanship dictated the value of a piece to become a work of art.
