The Kunst Historisches Museum in Vienna presents the exhibition “The World of Fabergé”, as part of the Russian-Austrian Cultural Season, on display from 18th February to 18th May 2014.
The exhibition will showcase over 150 pieces on loan from the Kremlin Museum and the Fersman Mineralogical Museum in Moscow, demonstrating Fabergé’s technical and artistic virtuosity and placing the jeweller in the context of contemporary Russian goldsmith work. Four Imperial Easter Eggs form the centre of the show. These precious objets d’art, commissioned by the Russian Imperial family, frequently contain an ingenious surprise element. Other artefacts, which once belonged to members of the Romanov family, offer fascinating insights into life, both private and ceremonial, at the Imperial Court. The exhibition also includes hard stone carvings by Fabergé, documenting the continued popularity of cabinets of curiosities in late 19th century Russia.
