We are proud to have collaborated with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to introduce the Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice® fine jewellery collection. This new collection pays homage to “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the visually singular and long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s award-winning film “Beetlejuice” (1988). “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will be released only in theatres and IMAX,  internationally beginning on 4th September 2024, and on 6th September 2024 in the US.
A triad of co-designers and pioneering leaders in the creative industry have brought to life the eccentric universe of this collection, which marries the Fabergé and Beetlejuice worlds in an enchanting way. With a style so distinct that ‘Burtonesque’ has been coined as an adjective, Tim Burton has collaborated closely with world-renowned Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Sleepy Hollow) and our Head of Design, Liisa Tallgren. Led by our Creative Director, Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, this ensemble of creative minds has come together to create a collection that encapsulates colour and craftsmanship and is set to capture the imagination of a new audience.
Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell says: “In every partnership we forge, we look for like-minded care and attention to creativity and a fearless commitment to challenging the status quo, and in the process, offer something unexpected and surprising. Colleen and Tim are true innovators and creative geniuses in their storytelling, and together we have created a collection which is modern and humorous and pays homage to their work on the big screen. It has been an extremely harmonious collaboration, filled with pure joy all the way. I am very proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
Available from today, the collection comprises 18k white gold earrings, pendants, lapel pins, collar bars and rings, inspired by the shape of a spiral, a motif prevalent in Tim Burton’s iconic films, and by two eerie Beetlejuice characters: Headworm and Sandworm. Each piece features a responsibly mined Gemfields emerald or ruby, cut to be round, oval or pear-shaped. Gemfields is a world-leading responsible miner and marketer of coloured gemstones, which strives to provide a positive impact to the country from which the gemstones originate. The fiery, vivid red gems which feature in this collection were mined at Montepuez Ruby Mining in Mozambique, and the glowing green emeralds were mined at Kagem Mining in Zambia, both of which are majority owned and operated by Gemfields. These colourful gemstones are surrounded by round brilliant-cut white diamonds. Each piece is painted with black, red or green UV enamel, the art of enamel being a craft technique synonymous with Fabergé.
These contemporary pieces can be styled alone or together as a set, with each design paying homage to a key theme or character from the upcoming “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” film. The colour palette has been carefully chosen to reflect the hues in the leading characters’ costumes.
Colleen Atwood says of the collection “I have always considered Fabergé to be like a beautiful piece of art. My first experience with the Maison was at an exhibition of its historical pieces in a museum many years ago; the creations I saw were so amazing, I felt inspired to dig a little deeper to learn more about the magical objects and jewels they produced. I feel honoured to be partnering with Fabergé because I have always admired their creations – I really can’t believe I'm part of something so perfectly attuned to design and craft, and it has been such fun to see it all come together.
Costume design and Fabergé go together like kindred spirits. Both are constantly changing and evolving, and each uses classic technology alongside more innovative techniques in the creative process with the ultimate goal of creating beauty and bringing joy to others.
I have immensely enjoyed the process of putting pencil to paper and watching our ideas evolve. There are no real barriers to bringing creativity to beautiful gems, each one with its own nuanced colour, and there are almost limitless possibilities with design. A quirky sense of fun is reflected in this collection and the hypnotic spirals and characterful motifs epitomise the spirit of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
Liisa Tallgren says of the collection: “I was inspired by the original “Beetlejuice” film (1988), in which a character called Betelgeuse, the Afterlife’s leading Bio-exorcist, appears as an eerie creature with a carousel head and spiral arms that unwind to form arms with mallets for hands. Throughout the films, Betelgeuse is dressed in a black and white suit, so we have dressed our collection in the same style to epitomise this. The green glow of the Afterlife is reflected in the emeralds, and the red rubies are reminiscent of the red wedding dress and suit, both of which feature in one of Betelgeuse’s dreams. The world of Beetlejuice has mysterious black and white striped Sandworms with red eyes and green lips, again reflected in the use of rubies and emeralds, which have also inspired the spiralling snake rings. The collar bars in the collection are inspired by the Headworm, one of the forms that Betelgeuse takes to terrorise the living.”
Our iconic egg motif is expressed in the Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice White Gold Spiral Egg Drop Earrings and Pendants, which are available with either a Mozambican ruby or Zambian emerald, in complementing green or red UV enamel and surrounded by white diamonds. The Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice White Gold Spiral Collar Bars and Lapel Pins feature either a Mozambican ruby or a Zambian emerald at the centre of the spiral design and are surrounded by black UV enamel and diamonds. The striped monochrome elements within these designs echo the visuals in the films and mimic the stripes on the Sandworm creatures.
The Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice White Gold Straight and Twisted Headworm Collar Bars feature the miniature heads of the Headworm, and each design features round or pear-shaped Mozambican rubies or Zambian emeralds.
The Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice White Gold Sandworm Spiral Wrap Rings feature a pear-shaped Zambian emerald or Mozambican ruby surrounded by white diamonds and two-tone red or green UV enamel. The pear-shared gemstones resemble the shape of the Sandworm creature’s head. The Fabergé x Beetlejuice Beetlejuice White Gold Bombe Rings are reminiscent of the spiral shape, and the monochrome colours are lifted by an oval-shaped ruby or emerald set into the centre of the spiral, almost like the centre of a vortex.
Tim Burton says of the collection; This collaboration with Fabergé is a very exciting opportunity to merge the world of Beetlejuice with the legendary jewellery house – I am very honoured.”
