The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt, a public art display featuring an interactive contest designed to raise awareness and funds for charity, launched today in New York City. The initiative sees over 260 large egg sculptures, each designed by globally renowned artists, designers, architects, photographers and brands including Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, RETNA, Julian Schnabel, Leo Villareal, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Zaha Hadid, Enoc Perez, Curtis Kulig, Nathan Sawaya, and Peter Beard, among others, placed throughout the five boroughs from April 1st to 17th, 2014. The Hunt will benefit conservation organization, Elephant Family and Studio in a School, a program that brings visual arts to New York City’s public schools.
The general public is encouraged to participate in the Hunt by downloading a smartphone application, available via iTunes and Google Play, which can be used to reveal egg locations across the city. Checking in at each egg will enter hunters in a sweepstakes to win one of three extraordinary precious gemstone pendants created by Fabergé, the world’s most iconic artist jeweler.
Following the two week hunt, all egg sculptures will be on display at Rockefeller Center® in a finale exhibition that is free of charge and open to the public from April 18 – 25th. The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt will culminate with a spectacular high profile live auction of select eggs and a corresponding online auction via Paddle8. Created as an innovative and engaging platform to raise funds for Elephant Family and other non-profits, The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt caused a frenzy in London in 2012, set two Guinness World Record titles and ultimately raised over $1.5 million for charity.
