THE JOURNEY OF THE GPHG AWARD

1 Minute Read

Fabergé recently won the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) – the Swiss watchmaking industry’s highest honour – in the ‘High-Mechanical’ category with its Lady Compliquée Peacock timepiece. The GPHG is widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the global watch industry and is intended to salute excellence in worldwide horological design and craftsmanship.

You can now follow the journey of Fabergé’s GPHG award on a trip to Africa with Fabergé CEO Sean Gilbertson and Geneva-based master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, the creator of the timepiece’s retrograde movement. The prize travelled from the awards ceremony in Geneva, visiting the Fabergé boutique in Geneva’s Kempinski Hotel, to Gemfields’ Kagem emerald mine in Zambia, the Victoria Falls, Lion’s Head in Cape Town and Namibia, before arriving at its permanent home in London where it was photographed at the Greenwich Observatory, best known as the location of the prime meridian and home to John Harrison’s four 18th century marine chronometers, and at the Fabergé headquarters in Mayfair with Peter Carl Fabergé’s great grand-daughter Sarah Fabergé, Timepieces Director Aurélie Picaud and the rest of the Fabergé team.
