Fabergé is co-sponsoring ‘The Cheapside Hoard: London’s Lost Jewels’, an exhibition of extraordinary and ancient jewels at the Museum of London from 11 October 2013 to 27 April 2014.
The Cheapside Hoard is a priceless collection of treasures from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, first discovered by chance in 1912 buried in a cellar on Cheapside, in the City of London.
A momentous find in the history of jewellery, the Cheapside Hoard remains arguably the single most important reserve of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewellery in England. It provides unparalleled insight into London’s role in the international gem trade during an age of global conquest and exploration.
The exhibition will present the collection of jewels in its entirety for the first time in over a century, exploring the mysteries surrounding the Hoard, thought to represent the stock-in-trade of a single goldsmith jeweller.
Fabergé, where the artistry of colour is a deeply-held passion, is delighted to support the exhibit, which includes a highly unusual collection of carved, cabochon and faceted precious and semi-precious jewels, demonstrating the astonishing ingenuity of craftspeople in the 16th and 17th centuries, a rare source of information and inspiration for historians, students and the greater public.
The exhibition runs from 11 October 2013 to 27 April 2014.
