On 8th November 2016, Kino Klassika Foundation hosted a gala screening of Vsevolod Pudovkin’s fascinating masterpiece ‘The End of St Petersburg’, at the Electric Cinema in partnership with Fabergé, to mark the Russian Revolution centenary next year.
The invited guests blended the British and Russian business communities. Sean Gilbertson, CEO of Fabergé, attended alongside film directors Carol Morley, Tom Harper and Christopher Hampton, Earl Clanwilliam, National Portrait Gallery director Nicholas Cullinan, composers Michael Nyman and Gabriel Prokofiev, Russian film historians Orlando Figes and Catriona Kelly, Tuppence Middleton and host of the evening Justine Waddell. Adding additional glamour to thess exquisite event was War & Peace star James Norton and former bond girl Olga Kurylenko, who sparkled in Fabergé’s Emotion multi-coloured jewels.
‘The End of St Petersburg’, a rarely screened masterpiece, was planned to grace the 10th anniversary of the Revolution. The film was officially commissioned by the Central Committee of the Communist Party to ‘honour the Bolshevik completion of the Russian Revolution’ alongside Sergei Eisenstein’s film masterpiece, ‘October’. Kino Klassika creates impactful programs of restorations, publications, art commissions and events to spotlight Russian language cinema.
