The Fabergé Houston boutique hosted a luncheon fundraiser in partnership with the Correa Family Foundation and the Gemfields Foundation at MAD Restaurant in Houston, Texas.
Continuing our partnership with the Correa Family Foundation, this special day raised over $30,000 for both the CFF Foundation and the Gemfields Foundation. This is the second time Daniella Correa has collaborated with Fabergé, this time creating a limited edition of 17 transformable pendant/brooch butterflies.
The number 17 was chosen in honour of young cancer victim Cameron Gooch, a huge fan of the Houston Astros baseball team, who, aged 9, was given the honorary player number of 17, as a mark of respect for his brave battle with the disease. Astros player Carlos Correa and his wife Daniella – who together with their family set up the foundation – became close friends with Cameron, before he tragically passed away. And when a butterfly, almost miraculously, landed on Carlos’ shoulder during a game, a symbolism was born.
To Cameron’s grieving parents, this butterfly became a sign of hope that their beloved son was safely in heaven, watching over all his family and friends. Incidentally, a few days after the butterfly appeared, Cameron’s family received a butterfly picture with the poem “As I sit here safe in heaven”, by Hazel Birdsall, which served as confirmation that Cam will always be present for his loved ones and those lucky enough to have known him.
The Correa Family Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded by Houston Astros player, Carlos Correa and his family to provide support to childhood cancer patients and their families. The organisation strongly believes that childhood is the greatest treasure of society and the foundation of our future. Therefore, they aim to provide transformative experiences and improve the quality of life of children suffering from cancer and honour them as our real heroes.
After a decade of directly funding projects in Zambia and Mozambique, Gemfields has created the Gemfields Foundation, a charitable arm to upscale these activations. Gemfields Limited funds the project overheads, and where the group has a presence, boots on the ground are offered free of charge to bring projects to life. As a result, donations received are directed in full to realise projects that yield positive impact. The UK-registered charity operates with two objectives: alleviating poverty in local communities and assisting wildlife conservation efforts.
Fabergé wishes to thank Ignacio and Isabel Torres, and chef Luis, who generously donated the MAD Restaurant for the afternoon.
The afternoon concluded with the release of 17 butterflies, in memory of Cameron Gooch.
