The exhibition “Fabergé, Jeweller to the Tsars” will showcase over 230 rare antique Fabergé treasures at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) from 20th June to 27th September 2015. The show will exhibit creations from the Collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, including Fabergé jewellery, heirlooms and objets d’art previously owned by the Russian Imperial family.
The exhibition will present Peter Carl Fabergé’s pristine craftsmanship through his diverse creations, from common items such cigarette cases and picture frames to precious diamond tiaras and enamelled clocks. A key highlight of the exhibition is the Imperial Tsesarevich Easter Egg, of 1912, which was a present from Emperor Nicholas II to Empress Alexandra. This Imperial Egg is made of the highest quality lapis lazuli and layered with ornate golden adornments, and was dedicated to their only son Alexei. The egg opens to reveal a two-sided portrait of Alexei in an elaborate photo frame with the Romanov family crest set in diamonds.
Dr. Geza von Habsburg, Fabergé’s Curatorial Director, will give a curated tour of the exhibition and a lecture on 18th and 19th June 2015.
