On 10th November 2015, 90 years after the first screening of Sergei Eisenstein’s iconic masterpiece ‘The Battleship Potemkin’, Kino Klassika Foundation hosted a screening at the London Electric Cinema in partnership with Fabergé.

The invited guests mixed London’s British and Russian communities. Sean Gilbertson, CEO of Fabergé, attended alongside Sarah Fabergé, great grand-daughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, actress and Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko, Roger Munnings CBE, Chair of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce, Lady Elizabeth Smith Baroness of Gilmorehill, Vladimir and Irina Kargin, Elizaveta Meshkvicheva, Eric Coutts, CEO of Edmond de Rothschild, Paddy Gilford, Earl Clanwilliam, Academy award winning playwright Christopher Hampton, Turner-prize nominated artist Isaac Julien, composer Gabriel Prokofiev, BBC film journalist Francine Stock, novelist Anna Blundy, and host of the evening Justine Waddell. Olga Kurylenko, Sarah Fabergé and Justine Waddell looked elegant in Fabergé jewellery.

The event was held in support of an exhibition of rarely seen Sergei Eisenstein’s drawings, part of the Eisenstein festival which aims to explore the great film director’s legacy in contemporary film and culture. The Eisenstein Festival, which is being developed by Kino Klassika Foundation, will celebrate Eisenstein’s career and legacy in anticipation of the centenary of the 1917 Revolution. The festival cornerstone will be an exhibition, curated by Professor Ian Christie and GRAD Director, Elena Sudakova, at GRAD London in spring 2016. About 150 drawings will be displayed, many for the first time, exhibiting Eisenstein’s exceptional draughtsmanship and his deep knowledge of English arts and culture.

Sean Gilbertson, CEO of Fabergé, is pleased to support Kino Klassika:

“Given Russia’s immense cultural heritage and influences, we are thrilled to support the screening of a Russian filmmaking masterpiece in an international setting. At times of heightened political chariness, it can be enlightening to explore shared cultural heritage and artistic inspirations. Sergei Eisenstein’s influence on contemporary and filmmaking culture is a never-ending story. Fabergé is also a never-ending story and the shared sense of wit, combined with a journey of discovery, inspired us to sponsor this rare Eisenstein screening in support of Kino Klassika and enhancing international audiences’ familiarity with exceptional Russian filmmaking.”
