Fabergé at the Gold Exhibition

1 Minute Read

The exhibition “Gold” at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, will explore the distinctive qualities of the precious metal, gold, that defines it as a material that represents royal affluence and power. Showcasing a unique selection of remarkable rare gold pieces throughout the centuries, the exhibition is an unmissable event.

A highlight of the exhibition is the Fabergé antique gold cigarette case of Edward VII. The rectangular cigarette case, which bears the emblem of Edward and Alexandra encrusted in diamonds with a cabochon ruby, was a gift to King Edward VII from his sister-in-law, the Dowager Empress Marie Fedorovna, Tsarina of Russia, on his 40th wedding anniversary in March 1903. It is comprised of alternating red, yellow, and white gold rays that cover the body of the lavish case.

The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace houses works of art from the Royal Collection. The Royal Collection holds the collections of the British Royal Family and is regarded as one of the largest and most prominent art collections in the world.

“Gold” is held from the 7th November to 22nd February 2014 at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA.
