THE INDEFATIGABLE MARK SHAND

1 Minute Read

Mark Shand, conservationist, friend, family and champion of the Asian elephant, died in New York City on 23 April 2014.

Tragically, Mr Shand passed away as a result of a head injury sustained during an accidental fall. The accident occurred at an event marking the record-breaking outcome of an auction of 36 artistic egg sculptures created as part of the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt to raise funds for two charities: the Elephant Family, of which Mr Shand was founder and chairman, and Studio in a School, founded by Agnes Gund.

A further 247 eggs created for the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt will, in honour of his memory, and with all proceeds going to the Elephant Family and Studio in a School, continue to be auctioned online by Paddle8 at: https://paddle8.com/auctions/bigegghunt.

To the one-of-a-kind and singularly indefatigable Mark Shand, the Fabergé family and Fabergé team bid a sombre and heartfelt adieu. The world has lost one of its greatest spirits.
