Each perfectly formed pendant in this sophisticated series of miniature eggs is ornamented in a slightly different style, with an individual, intensely coloured lacquered rococo motif, bringing modernity to the traditional Russian craft of lacquer work, which developed in the 19th century, particularly on snuff boxes, painted with landscapes, reproductions of famous paintings or scenes of peasant life. Here the rich polished rose gold is embellished with a dynamic, deep crimson scroll pattern.
