FABERGÉ AT AUCTION DURING LONDON RUSSIAN ART WEEK (30th May - 6th June 2014)
This June, Russian Art Week sees exceptional historic enamel and coloured gemstone jewels and objects by the House of Fabergé on sale at auction in London at Christie's, Sotheby’s, Bonhams and MacDougall’s.
Amongst the Fabergé treasures on sale at Sotheby’s on 3rd June are an exquisite silver-gilt and enamel clock, enamelled in translucent canary yellow, St Petersburg, 1899-1903, estimated at £250,000-350,000; and an elegant Fabergé diamond and sapphire bracelet, circa 1905, estimated at £20,000-30,000.
Highlights from the Christie’s sale on 2nd June include a diamond, ruby, demantoid garnet and sapphire-set gold brooch featuring a vase holding three flowers, and a jewelled silver and pearl necklace with a platinum-mounted nephrite pendant in the shape of an elephant. The stylised howdah-mount of this pendant relates it to other works by Fabergé inspired by the Order of the Elephant, the highest order of chivalry in Denmark.
Bonhams’ Russian Sale, on 4th June, includes one of the magnificent and iconic Fabergé flower studies, a jewelled gold, nephrite and rock crystal lily of the valley study, circa 1900, estimated at £200,000-300,000.
At MacDougall’s sale on 4th June, a delicate Fabergé silver and guilloché enamel photograph frame, heart-shaped and enamelled in translucent salmon-pink, is one of the stunning historic pieces to be offered at auction.
