Kokoshnik
The Kokoshnik jewels are inspired by the iconic and elaborately ornamented Russian headdress, tied at the back with long ribbons. The pattern of the kokoshnik usually matched that of the sarafan, the traditional long overdress. The kokoshnik was revived for wear at court, by royalty and nobility, during the late 19th and early 20th century surge of interest in “Old Russia”, early Russian art and culture. Here the distinctive, evocative shape of the kokoshnik is wrapped around a wide cuff bangle, set with Russian alexandrites, rubies and diamonds, and transformed into a pendant, ring and earrings.
