Les Fauves
Fabergé’s art was the jewel at the centre of Russia’s great Silver Age, linking the world of the Russian noble to the avant-garde artist. A Fabergé jewel was considered the ultimate gift, especially when presented to a celebrated ballet star by the Tzar himself. It was a time of explosive originality and creativity in the world of the arts, uniting painting and poetry, music and ballet, expressed by artists such as Diaghilev, Bakst, Nijinsky, Malevich and Kandinksy, fuelled by Symbolism with its rich inner world and by Fauvism with its uninhibited self-expression through colour. Les Fauves de Fabergé, abundant and vibrant with colour, explores the Bohemian flavour of this modernist vision and the intellectual and artistic richness of Fabergé’s world.
